There is much to be said about getting up in the morning, getting your first cup of coffee and spilling out close to 1500 words within the first hour of your day.
This is not a common occurrence, mind you, but when it does happen it feels absolutely wonderful, energizing, fulfilling.
Cecilia and I have been working hard on getting Counter Measure, our first novel, finished and ready to roll. The fact of the matter is that being an author means much more than sitting on a chair, in front of a computer, day in and day out putting sentences together. There is a myriad of steps to be taken to get a book, be is a short or a novel, published. Those steps triple in number once the book is published. Promotions, reviews, contests, blogging tours and many other things are all a part of getting your book sold once it’s out on the shelves.
Sadly, that takes the focus and effort from writing to selling. To be honest, I was never a good salesperson earlier in life and haven’t improved any since my young days. Although I do know it’s critical to the penetration of the book that we both spread the word and make our books knows to the public, I would still gladly sit in bed with my computer on my lap, tapping away at keys for the whole day without having to think about emailing reviewers, readers and editors through the day.
As it is, we do need to get back to reality from time to time and become social butterflies instead of the recluse artsy types we are. So, in order to make my promotional quota of the day I have blogged about how blogging can derail my creativity and take me away from the nice flow of words that were swirling and swishing in my mind just about to spill…and then I heard the loud announcement in my mind: ”Book Reviews, cashier 7!”
